The right way to use the Royal Kalahari Under Eye and Lip Serum Roller Oil is lightly: one pass under each eye and one over each lip, after your face serum and before any richer cream, then a few taps with your ring finger. Most of the trouble people have with it comes from doing more than that, rubbing it in, rolling it three or four times, or putting it on over a heavy cream. Get those right, pair it with the products it was built beside, and adjust through the year.
Five mistakes worth avoiding
Rubbing instead of patting
The skin under the eyes is the thinnest on the face and it moves easily. Rubbing drags it. Once the ball has laid down its thin line of oil, tap it in with your ring finger, the finger that applies the least pressure, and leave it there.
Rolling too many times
The roller ball meters the oil. One pass per area is the intended amount, and extra passes do not make it sink in any faster. They leave oil sitting on the surface, where it slides into concealer or ends up on the pillow.
Putting it on over a heavy cream
Lighter goes before richer. If the roller goes on top of a thick night cream, the oil has nowhere to go and sits on the surface. Use it after your serum and before your cream, so the lighter oil is closest to the skin.
Forgetting the lips
It is an under eye and lip serum, and the lips are where many people notice it first. One pass along the top lip and one along the bottom, then press them together, leaves a soft, nourished gloss with no separate balm.
Applying it after makeup
Roll it on first, give it a moment to settle, then apply concealer. Rolled over makeup, the oil breaks up what is underneath.
What to pair it with
The Royal Kalahari Face Serum
The roller is built from the same family of oils as our Royal Kalahari Face Serum, the formula that won People's Star Beauty Award for Best Facial Care Product. Press four to six drops of the serum over your face and neck, let them absorb, then follow with the roller where you want a second pass. We sell the two together as The Kalahari Icon Duo, to be used morning and night, with sunscreen in the daytime.
A richer cream at night
On evenings when you want more, finish with our Wrinkle Reducing Ultra Peptide Intensive Night Cream, a velvety peptide cream made for us by a specialist cosmetic lab. The order is serum, roller, then the cream over face, neck and décolletage as the very last step. The Youth Authority Face Set puts all three together with a set of gold under eye masks.
Gold under eye masks, now and then
Our 24K Gold Collagen Eye Masks are a cool, refreshing pause for eyes that look tired. Save them for the mornings you need them, then roll on the oil once the masks come off.
Through the year
The routine stays the same all year. What changes is how often you reach for the lip side.
Cold months. Indoor heating and wind dry the lips and the skin under the eyes before anywhere else. Keep the roller in your coat pocket and give your lips a pass whenever they feel tight. At night, follow the roller with a richer cream.
Warm months. Keep the roller in the refrigerator. The steel ball comes out cool, and a cool roll under the eyes is a pleasant way to start a hot morning. If your skin feels oilier in summer, the morning pass alone may be all the eye area wants.
Travel. Cabin air is dry. The 10 ml bottle slips into any bag, and a pass over the lips on a long flight needs no mirror.
Which skin it suits
It is made for normal, dry, mature and sensitive skin. Dry and mature skin tend to notice the difference under the eyes first, where skin looks brighter, smoother and softly hydrated with daily use. If your skin is sensitive, start with a single pass at night and add the morning once you know how it feels.
Questions about pairing and caring for the roller
Can I use the roller with the Ultra Peptide Night Cream?
Yes. Use the roller first, after your serum, then smooth the night cream over face, neck and décolletage as the last step of the evening.
Should I keep the roller in the fridge?
You can. Chilling it is optional, but the cool steel ball feels good under the eyes, especially on warm mornings.
Is it gentle enough for sensitive skin?
It is made to suit sensitive skin, as well as normal, dry and mature skin. Roll it on lightly, pat rather than rub, and start with once a day if you are unsure.
Do I need a separate lip balm?
Usually not. One pass along each lip leaves a soft, nourished gloss, and you can repeat it as often as your lips feel dry.
