Tonight someone will stand at a kitchen counter, work a little cream into their hands, and not think about where it began. It began in a kitchen too. The Marianella brand started in a grandmother's kitchen in Caracas, Venezuela, with the simple joy of making something beautiful from nature. It grew into a small-batch luxury skincare and home fragrance house, founded in 2007 and handcrafted in Brooklyn. Today it is the only Venezuelan-founded, independent luxury skincare and home fragrance brand in the United States.
The Marianella founder story begins in Caracas
Every family has a room where the important things happen without anyone announcing them. For the family behind Marianella, that room was a grandmother's kitchen in Caracas. [Detail to supply: one thing the family remembers being made there, and whose hands made it.]
What came out of that kitchen was not yet a business. It was a set of early memories, and the memories held an idea. Nature hands you something raw, and the work is to make it beautiful. Those memories became the foundation of everything Marianella makes, long before there was a name on a jar.
From Caracas to Brooklyn: rebuilding from scratch
Then life brought the family to the United States. [Year and circumstances of the move to confirm.] The kitchen stayed in Caracas. The family rebuilt that world from scratch.
From scratch is the honest phrase, and the heart of this story. Nothing was handed over finished. In 2007 [founder name] founded Marianella, and the studio that grew from it now handcrafts every product in Brooklyn, a long way from where the idea first took hold.
Small batches, clean ingredients, no shortcuts
The family brought three rules north, and they still read like a note written on the inside of a cupboard door: small batches, clean ingredients, no shortcuts. Each one is a refusal. Each one is the reason the work takes longer than it has to.
Those rules now govern 82 products across Face, Body, Hand, Home and Fragrance, priced from $40 to $160. They hold for a face cream, and they hold for the Palo Santo Reed Diffuser, which keeps working a room through the hours nobody is in it.
How an independent Brooklyn brand reached Bloomingdale's and the press
Nineteen years on, in 2026, Marianella is still independent and still made in small batches. It is sold at Bloomingdale's BEAUTYSPACE. It has been written about in Vogue, The New York Times, Harper's Bazaar, Allure, WWD, Forbes, Bloomberg, InStyle and Refinery29. People Magazine gave it a Star Beauty Award. It was one of Oprah's Favorite Things, and JVN of Queer Eye has spoken for it too.
None of that changed the rules. The studio still answers to the kitchen.
Why the story still matters
Back to the counter, and the hands, and the cream nobody stops to think about. Someone did think about it. A family did, starting in a grandmother's kitchen in Caracas and starting again, from scratch, in Brooklyn.
The full Marianella collection, from face and body care to home fragrance, is handcrafted in small batches in Brooklyn and available in our shop.
