The Rosewood Body Glow is two body products in one scent: our Rosewood and Litsea Cubeba Imperial Jade Body Oil and our Rejuvenating Body Cream in Rosewood and Litsea Cubeba, 16 fl oz. What makes it different from a single lotion is that the two formulas do different jobs. The oil is a light, silky layer that sinks in fast and leaves a soft glow; the cream is a rich, velvety layer that helps skin hold moisture. The oil goes on first, over damp skin after a bath or shower, and the cream goes over it.
Two formulas, two different jobs
Most body products try to be everything at once. This pair splits the work. An oil is all lipids, so it spreads thin, glides easily and leaves skin looking luminous. A cream carries water-loving ingredients as well as oils, so it adds a fresh layer of hydration and a cushioned, velvety feel. Put them together in the right order and you get both: the glow of an oil and the lasting softness of a cream.
Because both pieces are made in the same scent, layering them does not create two competing fragrances. The scent simply builds as you go.
Inside the body oil
The Rosewood and Litsea Cubeba Imperial Jade Body Oil pours as a pale, silky liquid and leaves a satiny finish with no tacky film. Its list is short and every oil in it has a reason to be there:
- Grape seed and apricot kernel oils form the base. Both spread lightly, so a little covers a lot of skin.
- Marula and argan oils add suppleness. Marula is a silky African oil rich in oleic acid; argan leaves skin feeling soft and supple.
- Pomegranate seed oil is a light, dry oil known for its punicic acid.
- Mongongo oil, pressed from a nut of the Kalahari woodlands, gives the blend its dry, silky touch.
- Vitamin E, as tocopheryl acetate, rounds it out and helps keep the oils fresh.
The result is an oil that looks luminous on skin rather than greasy, which is where the "glow" in the name comes from.
Inside the body cream
The Rejuvenating Body Cream is dense, cool and soft when it lifts out of the bottle, then melts into skin with a slow, even glide. It is built on Kalahari melon seed oil, the light, linoleic-rich oil our brand is built around, which helps skin hold moisture without feeling greasy.
Around it, aloe leaf juice and glycerin give the cream a fresh, watery layer of hydration. Coconut, sunflower, jojoba and avocado oils cushion the surface of the skin. Argan and borage seed oils add suppleness, and vitamin E (tocopherol) finishes the blend. The cream leaves skin feeling velvety and looking radiant, without a greasy residue.
If you want to read about any of these ingredients on its own, each one is in our Ingredient Library, with where it comes from and how it feels.
One scent from the first layer to the last
Rosewood and Litsea Cubeba is a scent of soft woods and bright citrus peel. Rosewood gives it a smooth, polished woodiness. Litsea cubeba adds a bright, lemony lift, and fresh bergamot rounds the two together. On skin it reads as clean and grounding rather than sweet.
The oil goes on first, while skin is still warm from the shower, and the scent opens in that warmth. The cream then settles it into a soft trace that stays close to the skin. If you like the scent, it also comes in our body wash, hand wash, hand cream, candle, room spray and reed diffuser.
Why the two are sold as a pair
Both pieces have their own product pages, and you can buy either one alone. The Rosewood Body Glow puts them in one box, and it costs less than buying the oil and the cream separately. More to the point, it settles the question of what to put on after the shower: one bottle, then the other, in the same scent.
Where it sits in our body range
The Rosewood Body Glow is the leave-on half of a body routine. If you want the full set, The Indulgent Body Box adds our Hawaiian Black Lava Body Caviar scrub and a pack of gold under eye masks to the same oil and cream: scrub, oil, cream. And if you already love the oil, the Imperial Body Glow Bundle pairs it with the scrub instead of the cream.
Like nearly everything we make, both the oil and the cream are made by hand in our Williamsburg workshop in small batches of 50 to 100.
Questions about what is in the Rosewood Body Glow
What comes in the Rosewood Body Glow?
Two full-size products: the Rosewood and Litsea Cubeba Imperial Jade Body Oil and the Rejuvenating Body Cream with Kalahari Oil in Rosewood and Litsea Cubeba, 16 fl oz.
Which oils are in the body oil?
Grape seed, apricot kernel, marula, argan, pomegranate seed and mongongo oils, with vitamin E. It is a blend of plant oils only, so it spreads thin and leaves a satiny finish.
What does the cream add that the oil does not?
Hydration from aloe leaf juice and glycerin, plus Kalahari melon seed, jojoba and avocado oils that help skin hold moisture. The oil gives the glow; the cream gives the lasting, velvety softness.
Is the scent strong?
It opens clearly when you apply the oil to warm skin, then settles into a soft, clean trace once the cream is on. It reads as woods and citrus peel rather than a heavy perfume.
