To use The Kalahari Icon Duo, put the face serum on first and the roller second. Warm four to six drops of the Royal Kalahari Face Serum between your fingertips and press them into clean face and neck. Once it has sunk in, glide the Under Eye and Lip Serum Roller Oil lightly under each eye and over your lips. Do this morning and night, and finish with sunscreen in the daytime.
The whole routine takes two or three minutes. Below is each step in detail, how the duo fits with the rest of your routine, and a few small things that make it work better.
Step one: the face serum
Start with clean skin. Put four to six drops of The Royal Kalahari Face Serum onto your fingertips and rub them together for a moment to warm the oil. Then press, rather than rub, over your cheeks, forehead, nose and chin, and down the neck. Pressing spreads the oil evenly without dragging the skin.
The serum is a light blend of botanical oils led by Kalahari melon seed oil, with baobab, camellia, passion fruit seed, tamanu and mongongo oils and vitamins C and E. It sinks in without a greasy feel, so skin feels softer at once. With daily use, it looks smoother, brighter and more even.
Start with four drops, and go up to six if your skin feels dry or you are covering the neck as well. More than that tends to sit on the surface rather than sink in.
Step two: the roller
Give the serum about half a minute to settle. Then take The Royal Kalahari Under Eye and Lip Serum Roller Oil and glide the ball along the bone under each eye, from the inner corner outward. There is no need to press: the roller deposits the oil and massages as it goes. Finish with a light pass over your lips.
That is the whole step: a few seconds per eye and one pass over the mouth. Under the eyes, skin looks brighter, smoother and softly hydrated. On the lips, the castor oil in the roller leaves a soft, glossy finish.
Morning and night
In the morning
Use the duo after cleansing and before sunscreen. Let both formulas sink in for a minute before you apply sunscreen or makeup. Because the serum is light and absorbs quickly, it sits well under both.
At night
Repeat the same two steps after cleansing. Skin has the night to drink it in, and there is nothing going over the top except, if you use one, a night cream as the very last step. If you use our Wrinkle Reducing Ultra Peptide Intensive Night Cream, the order is serum, roller, then cream.
Where the duo fits in a fuller routine
Cleanse first. Our Rose Face Wash Cream melts into damp skin and lifts away the day without a tight, squeaky feel, which leaves a comfortable base for the oils.
If you like a lighter layer of hydration under your oils, smooth on Detox Gel after cleansing. It is a clear aloe gel that sits between toning and moisturizing. Press the face serum in while the gel is still fresh, then use the roller as usual.
So a full morning looks like this: wash, gel, serum, roller, sunscreen. At night: wash, gel, serum, roller, and a night cream if you use one.
Small things that help
Warm the serum first. A moment between the fingertips makes the oil more fluid, so it spreads in one pass instead of three.
Roller last, never first. Put the broad layer on before the targeted one. If the roller goes on first, the face serum smears it away when you press it in.
Carry the roller. It slips into any bag, so you can use it at your desk, on a train or before a meeting when your lips feel dry or your eyes look tired.
Keep it cool if you like it cooler. The steel ball already feels cool on the skin. Store the roller somewhere cool and out of the sun and it feels fresher still.
Questions about using the Kalahari Icon Duo
How many drops of the face serum should I use?
Four to six drops, warmed between your fingertips and pressed into face and neck, morning and night.
Which goes on first, the serum or the roller?
The serum first over the whole face, then the roller under the eyes and over the lips once the serum has sunk in.
Can I use the roller on its own during the day?
Yes. A quick pass under the eyes and over the lips works any time your lips or under-eyes feel dry.
Do I still need sunscreen in the morning?
Yes. Use the duo first, let it sink in for a minute, and finish with sunscreen in the daytime.
