Stand in front of a shelf of skincare and most of it blurs into one pale row. One bottle doesn't, and the reason has nothing to do with what is inside it. The Marianella brand, a Venezuelan-founded house of serums, soaps, lotions and body oils, made in small batches in Brooklyn since 2007, keeps its making and its look in two separate rooms. The formulas belong to Marianella. Everything you see belongs to David, a fine artist of twenty-five years. The Marianella founder story, as it stands in 2026, is not about an artist who became a formulator. It is about a family that would not let either craft take a shortcut for the other.
Where the Marianella brand begins: Caracas
Before there was a label, there was a family in Caracas and the simple joy of making something beautiful from nature. Those early memories became the brand's foundation. [A specific memory from Caracas the family would like to share: a person, a place, a plant, a ritual.]
From Caracas to Brooklyn, rebuilt from scratch
When life brought the family to the United States, nothing arrived ready-made. They rebuilt that world from scratch in Brooklyn, in 2007, on three terms that have not moved since: small batches, clean ingredients, no shortcuts.
Nineteen years later the house is still independent, still made by hand, and still the only Venezuelan-founded, independent, luxury skincare and home fragrance brand in the United States.
Who makes Marianella skincare: the formula room
What goes in the bottle is Marianella's work. Take one of our body oils. It leads on mongongo, pressed from the seed of a tree in the dry country of southern Africa, where it has been used on skin for generations. It absorbs without leaving a film, on you or on the sleeve you pull on after. That is the kind of decision the formula room exists to make. It is made batch by batch, and it is never handed off.
How a fine artist shapes a skincare brand
David does not formulate. His side of the house is everything else: the label, the bottle, which story we tell this month. He brings twenty-five years as a fine artist, seven solo exhibitions and three published books, two of them with Random House. [How and when David came to Marianella.]
A painter's restraint shows up in places you might not expect. We have never met a season by shouting at it. Scent, the way we make it, is a presence in the room, noticed and never named. The same holds for the bottle. It does not need to raise its voice to be found. David is the reason you can tell ours across a shelf.
The Marianella brand in 2026
The two rooms now hold eighty-two products across Face, Body, Hand, Home and Fragrance. You'll find them at Bloomingdale's BEAUTYSPACE, and they have been written about in Vogue, Allure, Harper's Bazaar, the New York Times, WWD, Forbes and Bloomberg. Along the way they earned a People Magazine Star Beauty Award and a place on Oprah's Favorite Things. The batches are still small, and the shortcuts are still not taken.
