Face Oils or Serums? Our Brooklyn Studio Picks for Fall

Face Oils or Serums? Our Brooklyn Studio Picks for Fall

Our Brooklyn Studio picks for fall are two face sets: the Face Oil Collection, five pure face oils for different skin needs, and The Complete Face Serum Collection, all four of our face serums in one box. Choose the oils if you want a short evening step that answers dry fall air; choose the serums if you want a full routine for morning and night. Both suit the weeks when the heat comes on and a summer routine stops being enough.

Why fall is when routines change

The first cold weeks arrive quietly. The tap water runs colder, the radiators come on before anyone is ready, and twenty minutes after a shower the skin across the cheekbones can feel a size too small. Nothing has gone wrong. The air has simply turned drier, outside and in, and skin that was comfortable in August wants a little more by October.

That in-between stretch, before deep winter, is what these two sets are for. One adds a single, simple layer of comfort. The other rebuilds the whole routine around the season.

Made in our Williamsburg workshop

Our face oils and most of our serums are made by hand in our workshop in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, in batches of 50 to 100, small enough to check how each texture feels before a bottle leaves the bench. The one exception in these sets is the Wrinkle Reducing Ultra Peptide Intensive Face Serum, which a specialist cosmetic lab makes for us. Our brand has worked this way since 2007: make what is needed, so what reaches you was made recently.

The oils, for the early dark

There is an hour in October when the apartment goes dim while you are still in it, and the day asks to be closed. That is the hour for a face oil. Warm a few drops in your palms, then press rather than rub, starting at the jaw and working up. It takes a minute and it marks the end of the day.

The Face Oil Collection gives you five full-size, 100% pure oils, each for a different need:

  • Squalane Face Oil: weightless and quick to sink in, for dehydrated, sensitive or combination skin.
  • Marula Face Oil: rich and softening, for dry or mature skin that feels tight.
  • Sea Buckthorn Face Oil: deep orange and nourishing, for dull or dry skin that wants a livelier look.
  • Rosehip Face Oil: light and dry, for rough texture and uneven-looking tone.
  • Plum Face Oil: cushiony and luminous, for dry or delicate skin.

Press two to four drops onto clean, slightly damp skin, or stir them into your moisturizer. Wear one, blend two, or rotate them through the week as the weather changes. In early fall, squalane or rosehip may be all you need; by the time the heating runs all day, marula or plum gives more cushion.

The serum collection, for a full routine

Some people want one bottle. Others want the whole set on the shelf, so the routine can follow the weather instead of ignoring it. The Complete Face Serum Collection is for the second kind. It holds all four of our face serums:

  • The Royal Kalahari Face Serum, winner of People's Star Beauty Award for Best Facial Care Product: a light face oil for lasting hydration and a brighter, more even-looking tone, morning or night.
  • Vitamin C Face Serum with Niacinamide: a morning serum that helps dull, uneven-looking skin look brighter.
  • Wrinkle Reducing Ultra Peptide Intensive Face Serum: an evening peptide serum that helps fine lines look softer and skin look smoother.
  • The Midnight Youth Potion: a night serum of plant oils that gives rich overnight moisture.

The order is simple: vitamin C in the morning, peptides at night, and the Midnight Youth Potion last in the evening. Royal Kalahari works at either end of the day. It is the easiest way to move a whole face routine over in one step.

Beyond the face

A routine becomes an evening when it reaches past the sink. A bottle of Hydrating Hand Cream with Kalahari Oil by the kitchen sink looks after the hands that the cold reaches first. A reed diffuser in the front room, in a scent such as Moroccan Fig and Bergamot or Hawaiian Black Lava, tells the house the day is over without a flame to watch.

Giving one as a gift

A set solves the hardest part of gifting, which is guesswork. A single bottle asks someone to like that exact bottle; a set hands them a choice. For the person who has used the same drugstore serum for years and would never replace it themselves, The Complete Face Serum Collection is the gift that replaces a shelf. For the one who already knows what they like and wants the end of the day to feel better, give the oils, and let them find their favorite.

Questions about these face sets

Should I choose the Face Oil Collection or the serum collection?

Choose the oils for a short evening step and a simple answer to dry fall air. Choose the serum collection if you want a complete morning and night routine, or if you are replacing your routine all at once.

Can I mix two face oils together?

Yes. The Face Oil Collection is made for that: wear one, blend two in your palm, or rotate them through the week.

Is everything in these sets made by hand?

All five oils and three of the four serums are made by hand in our Williamsburg workshop. The Wrinkle Reducing Ultra Peptide Intensive Face Serum is made for us by a specialist cosmetic lab.

Will the sea buckthorn oil stain?

Its deep orange color is natural, so a drop can mark fabric. Start with two drops and keep white towels away while it sinks in.
