What Makes Rose Face Wash Cream Different from a Foaming Cleanser

What Makes Rose Face Wash Cream Different from a Foaming Cleanser

What makes Rose Face Wash Cream different is that it is a true soap-based cleanser made to behave like a cream. It cleans the way soap does, lifting sunscreen and the day's grime, but glycerin, sorbitol, rosehip seed oil and shea butter soften it, so it spreads like a lotion and rinses without the tight, squeaky feel of an ordinary face soap or many foaming washes. Skin comes away clean and soft at the same time.

A cream that cleans like soap

Most face cleansers fall into two camps. Foaming gels and lathers clean thoroughly but can leave skin feeling stretched and dry, so the first thing you do afterward is reach for moisture. Cleansing milks and lotions feel kind but can leave a film behind, especially at the end of a day of sunscreen.

Rose Face Wash Cream sits between them. Its base comes from our own soapmaking, which is where our brand began, so it has the cleaning action of real soap. We then soften that base until it becomes a cream you press into damp skin. It melts as it meets the water, spreads with a lotion's slip, and rinses clean.

What is in it, and why

  • Soap, softened with glycerin and sorbitol. The soap does the cleaning. Glycerin and sorbitol are humectants that keep the wash from feeling drying and give it its smooth, cushioned feel.
  • Rosehip seed oil and shea butter. Together they give the cream a velvety body, so it glides over the skin instead of dragging.
  • Finely milled oat and calendula. They keep the feel gentle. The oat is milled fine enough that you do not notice it as grit.
  • Kalahari melon seed oil. The light, fast-absorbing oil we use across our face and body formulas. Here it helps skin look smoother and more refined.
  • A note of rose. A touch of rose absolute, light enough to enjoy morning and night, and gone with the rinse.

You can look up each of these, and the other products they appear in, in our Ingredient Library.

There are no exfoliating acids and no scrubbing particles. It is a cleanser, and it is meant to be used every day.

How it feels, from first touch to rinse

Out of the container it is a soft, thick cream. Warmed between your fingertips and pressed onto a damp face, it loosens into something closer to a lotion. As you massage and add water, it turns milky. It does not build a tall foam, and it is not meant to: the cleaning happens without one.

The rinse is where the difference shows. The cream leaves with the water, and what is left is skin that feels clean and comfortable, a little cushioned, and ready for whatever you put on next. No film, no squeak.

Who it suits

It was made for dry, normal and sensitive skin that wants a proper cleanse and still feels like itself afterward. If you have been using a foaming wash and find your moisturizer never seems to be enough, a cream cleanser is worth trying first, before you add anything richer later in your routine.

It is also a good second cleanse. On days of heavy or long-wear makeup, take most of it off with a face oil, then use the cream to take away the oil and everything it lifted.

What it does not try to do

It is not a makeup remover for waterproof mascara, and it is not an exfoliant. It does not replace a serum or a moisturizer either. Its job is to get your face clean without taking anything away that the rest of your routine then has to put back.

Where it sits in our face routine

It is step one in our face sets that begin with a cleanse. In the Dream Routine it is followed by Detox Gel and The Royal Kalahari Face Serum; in the Facial Must Have Bundle, Rose Petal Mist Face Toner joins them between the wash and the gel.

Questions about how it compares

Is Rose Face Wash Cream a soap?

Its base is soap, from our own soapmaking, softened with glycerin and sorbitol into a cream. That is why it cleans like soap and feels like a lotion.

Does it foam?

Not much. It turns soft and milky as you massage it with water, and it cleans without needing a big lather.

Does it contain exfoliating acids or scrub particles?

No. The oat in it is finely milled to keep the feel gentle, not to polish, and there are no acids. It is made for daily use.

Will it leave a film on my skin?

Not if you rinse well. Rinse until the milkiness is gone, paying attention to the hairline and jaw, and skin is left clean and soft.
