A Day With the Fragrance Roller Oil, Step by Step

A Day With the Fragrance Roller Oil, Step by Step

The Fragrance Roller Oil goes on last: after your shower, after your body cream and face care, and just before you get dressed. Roll it once or twice over each pulse point, leave it to settle, and carry the bottle with you for a touch-up later in the day. Below is a full day built around it, from the morning shower to the last pass before bed, with the products that help the scent last longer.

Why the order matters

A roller oil is sunflower seed oil and fragrance. It has no alcohol to throw the scent into the air, so it relies on your skin to hold it. Skin that is well moisturized holds scent noticeably longer than dry skin, which is why everything before the roller is about getting moisture in first. Put the roller on bare, dry skin and it still works; put it on top of a good body cream and it lasts longer.

The other rule is to keep the face and the scent separate. Face care does one job, the roller does another, and they work best side by side rather than on top of each other.

The morning, step by step

  1. Shower with a matching wash. Our Replenishing Body Wash comes in all three of the roller's scents: Moroccan Fig and Bergamot, Hawaiian Black Lava, and Violet and Bergamot. It lathers softly, rinses clean, and leaves a light trace of scent behind, which is the first layer of the day.
  2. Pat dry, and leave skin slightly damp. Damp skin takes in a cream more easily, and the cream is what the roller will sit on.
  3. Smooth on body cream. Our Rejuvenating Body Cream is made with Kalahari melon seed, jojoba, avocado and argan oils to help skin hold moisture and feel smooth. Use it everywhere, and be generous on the wrists, arms and collarbone, where the roller will go. In the same scent, it builds a quiet base under the roller rather than competing with it.
  4. Do your face care. Cleanse, then follow your usual steps. If you use a serum without added fragrance, such as our Royal Kalahari Face Serum, this is where it goes. Keep the roller below the jawline.
  5. Roll on the scent. Once the body cream has sunk in, roll the oil over your inner wrists, the base of your throat and behind your ears. One or two passes per spot is enough. Do not rub the wrists together; press them lightly if you like, then leave them alone.
  6. Wait a minute, then dress. Give the oil a minute or two to settle so it goes onto skin, not straight into your sleeves.

During the day

The roller is built to be carried. A roller oil wears close to the skin and softens over the hours, and by mid-afternoon you may want to bring it back. Uncap, one pass on each wrist, recap. It takes seconds, needs no mirror and leaves nothing in the air for the people around you.

If your hands get washed often, a matching hand cream keeps the scent going between touch-ups. Our Hydrating Hand Cream comes in all three scents too, sinks in quickly and leaves no greasy film on the next thing you touch. Keep a bottle at your desk next to the roller.

The evening, step by step

  1. Shower or bathe as usual. If you prefer to shower at night, the morning steps above simply move here.
  2. Use a body oil on damp skin. Our New Imperial Jade Body Oil, a blend of mongongo, Kalahari melon seed, marula, grapeseed and argan oils, comes in Hawaiian Black Lava, Moroccan Fig and Bergamot, and Violet and Bergamot. A few warmed drops on damp skin help seal in the water already there and leave shoulders and shins feeling soft.
  3. Finish your face care. Again, keep the scent off the face.
  4. One last pass. If you like going to bed with a little scent, a single roll along the collarbone is enough. It is quieter than a spray on the pillow and stays with you rather than the bedding.

A shorter version for busy mornings

Not every day has time for five steps. On those days, keep it to two: body cream on the arms and neck, then the roller on the wrists and throat. The cream gives the scent something to hold on to, and the roller takes ten seconds. Everything else can wait for the evening.

Questions about building a routine around the roller

Should the roller go on before or after body cream?

After. Let the cream sink in first, then roll the oil over it; moisturized skin holds the scent longer than dry skin.

Does my body cream need to be the same scent?

No, but a matching scent layers rather than competes. If you use a different scent, choose one from the same family, or wear the roller on spots where you used less cream.

Should I apply it before or after getting dressed?

Before, when you can. Rolling onto bare skin lets the oil settle where your body heat lifts it, rather than going straight onto fabric.

Is it fine to wear to bed?

Yes. A single pass along the collarbone gives a soft scent at night without misting the pillow.
