The right way to use Plum Face Oil is as the final step of a full face routine: cleanse, mist, apply your serum, then press four to six drops of plum oil into the skin to finish. Turn the bottle over and the ingredient list is a single line, plum seed oil and nothing after it, so it sits easily on top of whatever came before. This is the routine we would build around it with our own products, step by step, morning and night.
One line on the label
Most face products carry a long list of ingredients, and layering several of them means wondering how they get along. Plum Face Oil is 100% pure plum seed oil, cold-pressed from the kernel inside the plum stone, with no added fragrance. There is nothing in it to cross-check against the rest of your shelf, and no scent to compete with the rose in the steps before it.
That simplicity is also why it belongs at the end. An oil holds in what is underneath it. Put it last and everything else has already done its work.
Step one: Rose Face Wash Cream
Run a little warm water over your face and press Rose Face Wash Cream into damp skin. It melts and spreads like a lotion, lifts away the day, and rinses clean without the tight, squeaky feel of an ordinary face soap. Rosehip seed oil and shea butter give it a velvety cushion, and finely milled oat and calendula keep the feel gentle. It was made for dry, normal and sensitive skin, the same skin plum oil suits best.
Rinse, then blot with a towel so your face stays faintly damp.
Step two: Rose Petal Mist Face Toner
Hold the bottle at arm's length and mist your face with Rose Petal Mist Face Toner. It is rose flower water, the water left behind when damask rose petals are steam-distilled, and skin feels fresh, supple and a little dewy within a breath. This is the water layer. It keeps your skin damp for the steps that follow, which gives the oil at the end something to hold in.
Step three: The Royal Kalahari Face Serum
While skin is still fresh from the mist, warm four to six drops of The Royal Kalahari Face Serum between your fingertips and press them into face and neck. It is a light blend of botanical oils led by Kalahari melon seed oil, our hero ingredient, with baobab, camellia, passion fruit and tamanu. It sinks in without a greasy feel and, with daily use, leaves skin looking smoother, brighter and more even. Give it a moment.
In the morning you could use our Vitamin C Collagen Boosting Face Serum with Niacinamide here instead: three or four drops, a moment to absorb, then on to the oil.
Step four: Plum Face Oil
Tip four to six drops of plum oil into your palm, press your palms together for a few seconds to warm it, then press it into your face, cheeks first, then forehead, nose, chin and jaw. Draw what is left down the neck. It glides on like a serum and settles in at a gentle pace, and skin is left soft, supple and silky, with a glow that looks lit from within rather than shiny.
In the morning, give it a minute or two, then apply sunscreen. At night, you are done.
On nights you use a night cream
If your evening ends with a rich cream, such as our Wrinkle Reducing Ultra Peptide Intensive Night Cream, the cream takes the last place and the plum oil moves one step earlier: serum, plum oil, then cream over face, neck and décolletage. Or stir a drop of plum into the cream in your palm and apply them together. Plum is the easiest of our oils to layer, so it works both ways.
When you are too tired for four steps
Some nights the full routine will not happen. Keep two steps: the Rose Face Wash Cream, then plum oil pressed into skin that is still damp from rinsing. You lose the extra water from the mist and the serum's work, but your skin still goes to bed clean and comfortable.
Questions about building a routine around plum oil
Can I use Plum Face Oil with The Royal Kalahari Face Serum?
Yes. Press in the serum first, give it a moment, then finish with the plum oil.
Do I need a toner before a face oil?
No, but a mist keeps skin damp, and an oil holds that water in. If you skip it, apply the oil while your face is still damp from rinsing.
Does Plum Face Oil go on before or after night cream?
Before. The cream goes on last, or you can stir a drop of plum oil into the cream and apply them together.
Will the plum oil clash with the rose scent?
No. Plum Face Oil has no added fragrance, so the only scent in this routine comes from the rose wash and the rose mist.
