The Venezuelan Heritage Behind Every Marianella Bottle

The Marianella brand began in Caracas, years before it had a name, in the simple joy of making something beautiful from nature. That is the Marianella founder story at its root: early memories of home became the foundation of a family's work, and when life brought the family to the United States, they rebuilt that world from scratch in Brooklyn. Founded in 2007, Marianella is today the only Venezuelan-founded, independent luxury skincare and home fragrance brand in the United States. It is a house of serums, soaps, lotions and body oils, and of the candles and diffusers that scent the rooms where they are used.

Where does the Marianella founder story begin?

It begins in Venezuela, in Caracas, with a family for whom nature was the place beautiful things came from. Before there were jars or labels or a shop, there was the pleasure of taking what the earth offers and turning it into something worth keeping.

Scent is the sense that holds on longest. A room, a season, a pair of hands at work can come back whole from a single breath. Those early memories stayed with the family when they left, and in time they became the brand itself.

How did memories from Caracas become formulas in Brooklyn?

When the family arrived in the United States, nothing they had made at home came with them ready to use. They had to rebuild it, piece by piece, in a new city. What crossed the distance intact was the instinct: begin with nature, take the time it asks for, and take no shortcuts.

That instinct still runs the workroom. Our candles are hand-poured with coconut wax in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, a little at a time. Kalahari melon seed oil sits at the heart of our hand wash and hand cream, so skin comes away comfortable rather than worn. Our Hawaiian Black Lava Body Caviar starts with sea salt and organic sugar to lift the dull surface away, then leaves the oil behind to nourish. Every formula is a way of making something beautiful from nature, the same pleasure the family carried out of Caracas, now worked through with Brooklyn hands.

What does the Marianella brand make in 2026?

The collection has grown to 82 pieces across Face, Body, Hand, Home and Fragrance, priced from $40 to $160. On the skin, there are serums, soaps, lotions and body oils. In the room, there are candles and reed diffusers that keep a scent moving through a house long after the evening that called for it.

Some of our scents have become fixtures. Moroccan Fig and Bergamot lives at the sink in hand wash and hand cream. Rosewood and Litsea Cubeba is another of our best-loved hand washes. Oud Tobacco and Leather, smoky oud and black pepper over tobacco, bergamot and soft leather, is the candle that goes first every year, and this season it returned in a new 10 oz jar, matte black outside and lined with gold that glows as it burns.

Why does an independent, Venezuelan-founded luxury brand matter?

Independence means the family still makes the decisions, and the decisions still come back to the same place: nature first, no shortcuts, made in Brooklyn. Being Venezuelan-founded means the brand carries a home that most of its customers have never seen, present in the way the work is done rather than spelled out on a label.

That way of working has found its audience. Marianella is carried at Bloomingdale's BEAUTYSPACE and has appeared in Vogue, the New York Times, Harper's Bazaar, Allure, InStyle, WWD, Forbes, Bloomberg and Refinery29. It received a People Magazine Star Beauty Award, was named among Oprah's Favorite Things, and has been featured by JVN of Queer Eye. Nearly two decades after the family rebuilt their world from scratch, the city they arrived in has made room for it.
