A Step-by-Step Rosewood Routine, From Body Wash to Cream

A Step-by-Step Rosewood Routine, From Body Wash to Cream

A full body routine with the Rosewood Body Glow has four steps: wash, exfoliate on the days you need it, smooth the body oil over damp skin, then apply the body cream over the oil. The Body Glow covers the last two steps; the first two set skin up for them. This guide walks through each step in order, then lays out what a week looks like.

Step 1: Wash gently

Start with a cleanser that does not leave skin tight, because whatever you strip away in the shower you have to put back afterward. Our Replenishing Body Wash is a castile-style liquid soap made from organic coconut and jojoba oils, saponified the traditional way, with organic aloe vera and a touch of Kalahari melon seed oil. It pours more fluidly than a gel, so a little on a cloth or sponge goes a long way.

It comes in Rosewood and Litsea Cubeba, so the scent starts here. Keep the water warm rather than hot, and keep the wash short.

Step 2: Exfoliate, two or three times a week

On scrub days, after washing, massage a scrub over wet skin from the neck down and rinse. The scrub we pair with the Rosewood oil is our Hawaiian Black Lava Body Caviar: sea salt and organic sugar in coconut, passion fruit and Kalahari melon seed oils, which buff away dull surface skin and leave it feeling soft. Its smoky scent and the bright rosewood make a quiet contrast, and the oil goes on beautifully over freshly polished skin.

Skip this step on the other days. Two or three times a week is plenty.

Step 3: The body oil, on damp skin

Pat once with a towel, leaving skin damp. Warm a few drops of the Rosewood and Litsea Cubeba Imperial Jade Body Oil between your palms and sweep it over legs, arms, shoulders and torso. The oil helps seal in the water already on your skin and leaves a satiny finish with no tacky film. Give it about a minute.

Step 4: The body cream, over the oil

Smooth the Rejuvenating Body Cream in Rosewood and Litsea Cubeba over the oil, working a little extra into elbows, knees, shins and heels. The cream is rich and velvety, with Kalahari melon seed, jojoba and avocado oils, aloe leaf juice and glycerin. It is the layer that keeps skin feeling soft long after you have dressed.

Through the day: hands

Hands get washed far more often than the rest of the body and dry out first. Our Hydrating Hand Cream and Hydrating Hand Wash also come in Rosewood and Litsea Cubeba, so the scent you put on in the morning carries through the day each time you wash your hands. A small amount of hand cream after washing is enough.

At home: the same scent in the room

Rosewood and Litsea Cubeba is also one of our candle, room spray and reed diffuser scents. You do not need any of them for the body routine to work, but if you like the scent, a reed diffuser in the bathroom or a quick mist of room spray before a bath makes the whole routine feel of a piece.

What a week looks like

  • Monday: wash, scrub, oil, cream.
  • Tuesday: wash, oil, cream.
  • Wednesday: wash, oil, cream.
  • Thursday: wash, scrub, oil, cream.
  • Friday: wash, oil, cream.
  • Saturday: a longer bath, scrub if your skin wants it, then oil and a generous layer of cream.
  • Sunday: wash, cream only, if you want a lighter day.

This is a guide, not a rule. If your skin feels dry, add more cream and scrub less. If it feels comfortable and you want more glow, lean on the oil. In hot weather, use smaller amounts of both.

All of the body products in this routine are made by hand in our Williamsburg workshop in batches of 50 to 100.
