You get the most from Rejuvenating Body Cream with Kalahari Oil by adjusting how you use it to the season, to the parts of your body that need it most, and to what else is in your routine. The basic method stays the same all year: apply it to slightly damp skin after bathing and let it sink in. What changes is how much you use, where you put it, and what you layer with it. Here is how we adjust it, and the few mistakes that hold people back.
Adjust it to the season
Winter
Indoor heating and cold wind dry body skin faster than anything else. In winter, use the cream every day without exception, straight after the shower, and again in the evening on shins, elbows, hands and feet. On the driest days, smooth a few drops of body oil onto damp skin first and put the cream over it. The oil helps hold in the water already on your skin, and the cream adds cushion on top.
Summer
When it is hot, many people skip body cream because they expect it to feel heavy. This one is built on Kalahari melon seed oil, which is light and dry to the touch, so it absorbs cleanly even on warm days. Use a little less, keep it to damp skin after a cool shower, and you will still have soft skin under sun, salt water and air conditioning. If you will be outdoors, let it sink in and follow with sunscreen.
Spring and fall
The in-between seasons are when skin often feels tight without warning, as the heating goes on or off. Watch the places that change first, usually the shins and the backs of the arms, and give them a second pass.
Spend the cream where your skin needs it
Not every part of the body needs the same amount. Elbows, knees, heels and shins have fewer oil glands, take more friction from clothes and shoes, and feel rough first. Give them a small extra amount, pressed in with circles. The avocado, argan and borage oils in the formula are there for this kind of skin.
The torso and upper arms usually need less. Feet do well with cream at night, when nothing rubs it off for hours; a pair of cotton socks over the top helps if your heels feel especially rough.
Layer it for very dry skin
When the cream alone is not enough, add an oil underneath. Our Rosewood Body Glow pairs the cream with the Rosewood and Litsea Cubeba Imperial Jade Body Oil in the same scent: oil first on damp skin, cream over it. The oil sinks in quickly and leaves a soft glow; the cream helps skin hold moisture and feel smooth. Use the pair only where you need it, rather than head to toe, and keep the cream alone for the rest.
A gentle wash beforehand makes a real difference too. The cream works best when it is topping up moisture, not making up for a cleanser that left your skin tight.
Common mistakes
- Drying off completely first. Aloe leaf juice and glycerin attract water. If you towel yourself bone dry, they have less to work with. Stop while your skin still feels slightly damp.
- Using too little in the first week. Skin that has been dry for a while takes in the first few applications quickly. Use a bit more at the start; after a week or two the usual amount will be enough.
- Saving it for special occasions. Body skin responds to steady moisture. A little every day does more than a thick layer once a week.
- Putting fragrance on first. Perfume or a roller oil goes on top of the cream, after it has absorbed.
- Keeping it on a sunny windowsill. Plant oils prefer a cool shelf out of direct light.
Choose the scent and size that fit how you live
The formula is the same in all four scents, so choose by what you like to smell on your skin: Moroccan Fig and Bergamot, crisp, with apple, grapefruit and plum; Hawaiian Black Lava, musky and woody; Violet and Bergamot, a fresh floral; or Rosewood and Litsea Cubeba, soft woods and bright citrus peel.
If more than one person in your home uses it, or you get through a bottle quickly in winter, the Body Cream (4 Pack) keeps spares in the cupboard. The 128 oz gallon is for refilling your own bottles, or for a spa, salon or rental that goes through a lot of cream.
Questions about getting more from the cream
Should body oil go on before or after the cream?
Before. Smooth the oil onto damp skin first, then the cream over it, which is how we suggest using the Rosewood Body Glow pair.
Is the cream too heavy for summer?
Most people find it is not. The Kalahari melon seed oil base is light, so use a little less and apply it after a cool shower.
Is there a larger size?
Yes. There is a four-pack of the 16 fl oz bottles and a 128 oz gallon for refills, both with the same cream inside.
Which scent should I choose?
Choose the one you enjoy most, since the formula does not change. If you use our body wash, matching the two scents keeps them from competing.
